When Theology Misses The Heart - Part 15

Job's third friend Zophar responds to Job with: I) A rebuke (1 – 6). He accused Job: i) Of uttering worthless word, so provocative in nature. Words which, according to him, disregarded the prior speakers (v1); ii) Of pride of incorruptibility (3 – 4). Assuming that Job's boastfulness was meant to silence men (3), his mocking/scoffing must have none to rebuke him (3b). That, Job possessed a doubtful virtue (4). iii) Of performative piety (4-5). Zophar, undermined Job's: a) claim of doctrinal integrity (v4); b) Claim of practical purity (4b). c) Zophar imposed a challenge of divine verdict (5). iv) Of Practical wickedness (6). In that; Zophar attested: a) His desire (6a); b) His declaration and c) His directive (6c).
But, in all these; misdiagnosing the problem without discernment, is dangerous. It doesn't matter what one says or how true sounding what has been uttered. IF the mind of God is not behind it, all word's uttered become worthless. God, give wisdom and discernment, to those who would speak in your Name, with grace and love.
