Psalm 20

There are three changes of person in the Psalm: verses 1-4 'thee', verses 5, 7-9 'we' and verse 6 refers to 'I' that is, 'the Me’.
I. 'THEE' (verses 1-4) makes us think of our prayers for another
A. Christians should always be praying for this one or that one.
B. David guides us concerning our prayers
(i) There is the need to be heard by God in the day of trouble. (ii) There is the need to be defended by God. (Acts 22.25). (Genesis 48.11). (iii)There is the need to receive help from God. (Matthew 12.6). (iv) There is the need to be remembered by God. (Romans 12.1). (v) There is the need to have desires satisfied by God.
II. 'WE' (v.5) makes us think of our shared or communal commitments
A. We unite in joint celebration. (Revelation 5.9-10).
B. We unite in joint testimony (Revelation 11.3).
III. 'ME'. The 'I' (of verse 6) makes us think of our personal commitment
A. Jehovah Jesus is the saving Lord. (Job 19.25-26)(2 Timothy 1.12).
B. Jehovah Jesus is the hearing Lord. (Hebrews 4.15-16).
C. Jehovah Jesus is the strengthening Lord.
CONCLUSION
Response (i) Trusting aright. (20.7). (ii) Standing fast. (20.8) (iii) Calling on the Lord.
