Our Response To The Poor

In Mark 14:7, the Lord Jesus says,

'For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.'

So what is our response towards the poor, especially as Christians ?

Rev Elliott takes a look at what the book of Proverbs says on this subject, and deals with it in two divisions.

1. THE DIVINE REGARD FOR THE POOR

Do you know that God is very interested in how we treat the poor ?

In Proverbs 14: 31 we read:

'He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth Him hath mercy on the poor.'

2. THE HUMAN RESPONSE TO THE POOR

There are two different responses which are made towards the poor, which can be found in Proverbs 29:7 -

'The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it.'
