pastor Brewer teaches on the third chapter of "The Whole Christ" by Sinclair Ferguson (Crossway Publ., ISBN 978-1-4335-4800-0, available from the Westminster Online Bookstore. This book uses an historical controversy from the Scottish Reformed Church in Auchterarder to teach us that neither antinomianism nor legalism is the correct way to understand the order of our salvation.
This chapter's main points are that God's love is not contingent on something the potential believer must do first ... that faith in Christ precedes the believer's manifestations of the fruit of the spirit. The benefits of belief in Christ cannot, must not be separated from Christ himself.
