Christ afflicted in striving against sin

There is fellowship in Christ's sufferings for the believer in their battles against sin. Christ's battle most acute due to his holy perfection which stirred up the vicious enmity of wicked men - the world and the devil assailed him. Heb 12:4

1. Christ's priesthood contradicted v57. Caiaphas epitomised all that was corrupt in the Jewish priesthood.
2. Christ's kingship contradicted v59. A wicked high priest initiates the civil power to act against the King of all the earth.
3. Christ's prophetic office contradicted v59,60a. Man's self-righteousness will not allow the real truth of Christ.
4. Christ's glory miserably acknowledged v58. Peter followed 'afar off' but still followed. The effects of the new birth can never be extinguished, it must ever be our endeavour to follow Christ fully.
