Distraction Leads to Denial
Series Chronology of the Gospels
Jesus told Peter, before the night was over he would deny Jesus, not once, but three times. People have questioned how Jesus knew Peter would deny Him three times. I believe the easy part was Jesus' predicting his dear friend would deny him. Peter had become distracted and Jesus knew his distraction would lead his dear friend to drift. He also recognized that in that foggy state of mind, rather than of standing firm, Peter would deny the LORD. The fact Jesus knew he would do it three times before a rooster crow is something I chalk up to Jesus being God manifest in human flesh. Nevertheless, Peter was distracted, then drifted, before ultimately denying the LORD three times in a matter of minutes. The blessing was the rooster! The rooster's crow broke Peter out of his stupor and brought repentance that led to being focused once again on following Jesus.
