A Life Independent from God (4:13)

Independence from God – You set your own schedule. “Today or tomorrow…”

Independence from God – You select your own path. “…we will go to such and such a town…”

Independence from God – You place your own limits. “…and spend a year there…”

Independence from God – You arrange your own activities. “…and trade…”

Independence from God – You predict your own outcome. “…and make a profit…”

The Absurdity of Life that is Independent from God (4:14)

It’s absurd because – You are not omniscient. “yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring.”

It’s absurd because – You are transient. “What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.”

A Life Dependent on God (4:15-17)

Dependence on God means – You consider His will. “Instead you ought to say, “if the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”

Dependence on God means – You practice humility. “As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.”

Dependence on God means – You do the right thing. “So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.”
