Proper Worship

The three places mentioned in this passage were significant to the Israelites. The Lord had told them to put markers to help them remember certain things. Bethel was where the Lord had met with His people. In Gilgal, a marker was set to remember the great acts of God. In Beersheba, a marker was set to remember great men of God. They set up these places, but misused them and provoked God to jealousy. They focused on the house, the acts, and the men, rather than the common denominator in all three of these: God Himself. We must be careful to keep our focus on God Himself: His presence, Him doing great things now, and Him using ordinary people. Seek the Lord and live!
