As Examples for Us

It has been said that the Millennials (1982-94) or the Generation Snowflake have been “raised on praise from potty to prom” — As a result, one pundit wrote, “Apart from exhaustion with self-love, Millennials are ill-equipped to deal with real life. Making everyone feel good all the time means that no one knows how to feel bad. So when Millennials encounter the suffering and hardship of real life, they have a hard time handling it.” They want “safe space”, they don’t want to interact with those with whom they disagree, etc.
I. Paul’s overall concern is that believers be self-controlled and live disciplined lives so that they would not be disqualified (9:24-27).
II. We must learn to faithfully use the teaching and examples of the OT (10:6, 11).
Several truths are best learned from the OT.

1. God’s holiness is best learned in the OT.
2. God’s resolute hatred against sin is best learned in the OT.
3. Man’s deep sinfulness is best learned in the OT.
4. Man’s desperate need for Christ is best learned in the OT.
