The Focus in the Use of Liberties

In writing to the Corinthians, the apostle Paul elaborated, thereby broadened the application for believers to make the right use of their liberties.

He introduced the subject of liberties by emphasizing that the true God is unique and other gods are nothing and can do nothing. There is only one way of knowing the true God, of being known by Him, and of worshiping Him. The use of or restriction of believers liberties does not improve the relationship with Him. The use of liberties should however be considerate of the relationship with other believers and their relationship to God.

The mature Christian should not exercise a liberty that if observed by a weaker Christian would cause them to sin. Using himself as an example Paul explains why he did not take payment for his ministry of the Gospel or use his right to be married.

Voluntarily choosing to refrain from the use of liberty for the sake of the Gospel and the spiritual welfare of others will bring greater reward than exercising any liberty.
