The Denials of Peter
Series The Gospel Of Luke
I. Exposition of the Passage
1. We see a Christian going where he should never go
2. We hear a Christian saying what he should never say.
3. We find a Christian seeing a sight he should never forget
II. Observations on the Denials by Peter
Peter made the best and worst confessions of Christ
That Peter would deny the Lord was a fixed certainty
Peter was absolutely responsible for his sin.
God was absolutely sovereign in the denials of Peter.
Nothing can happen outside the decreed will of God.
III. Peter's Restoration – John 21:15-19
1. The parallels between this account and the denials are not “coincidental” but intended to remind Peter of that fateful night.
2. The Three Affirmations
This is a misunderstood and often misused passage, centering around
the meaning of two Greek words, for love -- Phileo and Agapao.
