The Denials of Peter

I. Exposition of the Passage

1.  We see a Christian going where he should never go

2.  We hear a Christian saying what he should never say.

3.  We find a Christian seeing a sight he should never forget 

II. Observations on the Denials by Peter

  1. Peter made the best and worst confessions of Christ

  2. That Peter would deny the Lord was a fixed certainty

  3. Peter was absolutely responsible for his sin.

  4. God was absolutely sovereign in the denials of Peter.

  5. Nothing can happen outside the decreed will of God.

III. Peter's Restoration – John 21:15-19

1.  The parallels between this account and the denials are not 	“coincidental” but intended to remind Peter of that fateful night.

2.  The Three Affirmations 

This is a misunderstood and often misused passage, centering around 

the meaning of two Greek words, for love -- Phileo and Agapao.
