2Sam008 The Ideal King

Following closely upon the heels of the Davidic Covenant in chapter 7, the narrative contained in this chapter demonstrates the historical fulfillment of the covenant promises made to David as it portrays David ruling as king in a most ideal fashion. The elements of David's ideal kingship consist of military conquest, devotional tribute, and godly administration. The burden of this narrative is to show that God made good on the covenant promises which were to be fulfilled in David's lifetime and presents David as an ideal king who points forward to the supreme King, the Lord Jesus Christ.
