Authoritative Servant Leadership

The Head of the church has endowed His undershepherds with tremendous authority so that they may oversee the purity of the church's doctrine, morality, and unity. But it is exactly because pastors have been given so much authority that the Holy Spirit has filled our Bibles with warnings against the dangers of abusing that authority. This leadership of this unregenerate world is fueled by pride and selfish ambition, but the leadership of God's kingdom is to be motivated by love for God and others, which is fueled by humility and self-abasement. As in all things, it is our Lord Jesus Himself who is our Master Example of what it means to be the greatest of servants.
