Arrested in the Garden

Luke 22:47-52
Of the 4 gospel accounts of the arrest – Luke's is the shortest.

1.  Judas brings the Temple guards to arrest Jesus.
2.  The whole affair is bungled badly by the arresting band.
3.  Allow them to arrest me.
4.  This is your hour and the power of darkness.

Matthew 26:45-56

1.  We find that Jesus is in total control of the situation.
2.  His words to Judas, “Friend, why have you come?”
3.  You live by the sword – you die by the sword.
4.  No mention is made of healing the servants ear.
5.  Christ had the ability and power to escape.
6.  The Scriptures needed to be fulfilled v. 54 & 56
7.  All His disciples fled.

Mark 14:51-52

This is the only account that mentions this – and it is likely auto-biographical.

John 18:1-12

v. 11 – Here is THE CUP again.

Final Applications:

1.  There is great danger in having knowledge of God without a heart of love for God.

2.  Marvel at the absolute power of Christ and the absolute depravity of man.  v. 6

3.  Note the absolute care on protection of Christ for His sheep  v. 8-9
