Christology 23: God’s Justice, Our Peace

Robert McNutt's February 11, 2018 sermon in his Christology series focuses on Christ's priestly office, particularly His sacrificial offering—the oblation. Anchored in Ephesians 5:2, Hebrews 9:24–28, and Hebrews 10:10–12, McNutt defends the reality and necessity of Christ's death as a true priestly sacrifice. He rebukes modern denials of substitutionary atonement and demonstrates that Jesus' once-for-all sacrifice satisfied divine justice, fulfilled Old Testament typology, and made peace between sinners and God. By unpacking the Old Testament sacrificial system, he shows how it pointed to God's holiness, justice, and grace, and ultimately to Jesus as both priest and offering. McNutt exhorts listeners not merely to believe in Christ's sacrifice abstractly, but to embrace Christ Himself in faith and worship, urging believers to deepen their love and obedience because of what their Great High Priest has done.
