The statement in our text "...one of our next kinsmen..." points to one who could redeem the needy. Boaz had a right to redeem Ruth; Christ has a right to redeem the covenant people given to Him by the Father. To understand the transaction which takes place later in Ruth it is essential to understand what God's law says about the principle of the Kinsman-Redeemer.
