Overboard

We all face storms in this life. Some seem to come from nowhere, and we never understand their cause other than the fact that we live in a broken world. Storms can be devasting and leave us picking up the pieces. Some we may never understand in this life but we know the suffering is real. Other storms, like in Jonah's case, have come into our lives, because of our own disobedience. The storm that we find ourselves in the middle of with Jonah is due to his stubbornness and rebellion towards God's will of taking God's message of mercy and judgement to a foreign nation. Let us hear the winds howling. Let us imagine the waves crashing in as the ocean sprays saltwater upon our face. Let us feel the boat rocking. Let us hear the pagan idolater's crying out to their false gods without any hope. Let us sense the anger of God toward this rebelling prophet, the rebelling nation of Israel, and the rebels in the world today.
