Promise and Election

As Paul looked upon the state of his nation, when it was to them that the oracles of God came, a natural question came to mind, namely, was God's promise worthless or powerless? Paul says absolutely not. The context of his passage is election unto salvation based upon nothing in the one elected. Paul shows that the promise he talks about has to do with election, which has nothing to do with natural descent, privilege or worthiness in the one who attains the promise. Rather, it has to do with the purpose of God according to election.
