Trusting the Bridegroom in Bad Times

Christ as Bridegroom of His Church provides all nourishment for His people, for He works all things to His Glory and our Good.

Even when the Church faces persecution and want and sorrow, these are declared to be great victories in Christ.

The challenge for the Church is to trust in the love and promise of the Bridegroom, that in everything He is cherishing and nourishing His Church.

In the end, He is preparing a glorious place for His Bride in Heaven, where all tears will be wiped away. Then we will see the mercy and judgment by which He wove our web of time, as old Samuel Rutherford cried out, and even the dews of sorrow were lustred with His love!

The Lord's Table is the greatest example of how great sorrow and seeming defeat are Victories in the Lord Jesus, for the disciples plainly misjudged our Lord's crucifixion as a terrible loss, when He by His strong arm was bringing in the Victory! He knew all this beforehand, and instituted the Lord's Table so that, when the victory was plainly seen, His Bride might rejoice in and celebrate that Victory until the Bridegroom takes Her to be with Him in Glory.
