Study 3: The Division of the Kingdom
Series Finding the Lost Tribes
Study 3: The Division of the Kingdom.1 Kings 12:16–20; Hosea 1:6–11After Solomon's reign, the united kingdom of Israel splits: ten tribes form the Northern Kingdom (Israel) under Jeroboam, and two tribes remain in the South (Judah) under Rehoboam. This division, driven by political rebellion and spiritual compromise, fulfills prophetic warnings. In Hosea 1:6–11, God declares judgment on Israel ("Lo-ammi" – "not My people") but promises eventual restoration and unity, saying the divided people will again be called "the sons of the living God."The division of Israel into two kingdoms marks a pivotal moment in biblical history. Though political in appearance, it reflected deeper spiritual failings. Yet God's faithfulness endures: He promises to regather and restore the lost tribes, revealing that despite human failure, He remains the God of both houses. The scattered will one day become one people under one King.
