The 7th Commandment: God's Call to Purity!
Series Series on God's Law
THE SEVENTH COMMANDMENT: GOD'S CALL TO PURITY!
Intro. Preaching through God's law can lead to several faulty conclusions
A. It may appear to teach a “salvation by holiness or obedience”
B. It may “bring a spirit of bondage again to fear”
C. It may appear to reduce the Christian life as “a life of do and do-not to be done in our strength”
I. What is included in this call for purity?
A. Setting of Paul's teaching in 1 Thessalonians 4
B. God wills that we abstain from any form of fornication (3b)
C. God wills that we treat the sexual activity as holy and honorably (4-5)
II. Why does the Lord demand this sexual purity?
A. Because sexual impurity is a most accursed sin: abominable! Leviticus 18:27
B. Because believers are members of Christ and temples of the Holy Ghost: 1 Cor. 7:15-20
C. Because sexual sin steals something from your brother or neighbor (vs. 6a)
D. Because God will not leave such sins unpunished: God is the avenger! (vs. 6b)
PARTING TRUTHS:
A. Who can place his hand in his bosom and take it out clean?
B. Yet let's never fear to draw near to the throne of grace (Heb. 4:14-5:1)
C. Let's remember that the Lord Jesus is the LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
