WCF001 Introduction to the Westminster Assembly
Series Westminster Confession
On 12 June 1643 the Ordinance for the calling of the Westminster Assembly was passed by the English Parliament and in it the reasons for calling this assembly were expressed. Primarily this Ordinance calls attention to the need to reform the government of the church of England; however it does also point out the need to bring about reform in the church in the areas of worship and discipline, and the model it seeks to conform to is that of the Church of Scotland. This lecture takes up the civil and political issues which Parliament and Charles I divided over and how these key points of disagreement led to the calling of this "assembly of the Lord."
