God's Judgment on Human Obstinacy

It is significant that the single incident in history between the Flood and the life of Abraham upon which the Holy Spirit focused attention had to do with the defiance of God's command. The Tower of Babel, so called because God confused human languages there, was the greatest symbol in the post-Flood world that the depravity that had cursed the pre-Flood world was still alive. Yet, in a passage marked by various ironies, the truth of God's sovereignty appears again as God preserves His purpose in the face of sinful defiance.
