Traditionally, seven sayings have been called; the words of: 1) Forgiveness Lk 23v34: Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do 2) Salvation Lk. 23v43: Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise 3) Relationship Jn 19v26–27: Woman, behold your son. Son, behold your mother 4) Abandonment Matt. 27v46 & Mk 15v34: My God, My God, why have you forsaken me? 5) Distress Jn 19v28: I thirst 6) Triumph Jn 19v30: It is finished"; 'accomplished and completed') 7) Reunion Luke 23:46: Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit.
Principally; the 4th saying, concerns the cry of abandonment. The "Eerie Hour" introduced, stretches back to Christ' first appearance until His crucifixion: a) His desire to die and anticipated cup of God's wrath b) the disdain and mockery of men c) the deadly physical pain.
