Christ Seekers and Self Seekers
Series The Gospel of Mark
Many observations from this passage: 1) Life with Jesus was never boring; 2) Loving your neighbor involves sacrifice. Those who were well went out of their way to help those who were sick get near to Jesus; 3) Christ came to help the helpless -- those who could not help themselves. 4) God gives grace to the humble. Those who knew they were sick were helped. 5) There is sufficient grace in Jesus to heal all who touch Him. The doctrine of election must be preached so that it is clear that salvation is by sovereign grace alone. Yet, we must have the gracious invitations of scripture -- "Come to me and I will give you rest." 6) Not all is gold that glitters. Many hundreds, if not thousands, were healed by Jesus, but did they all become disciples? If so, where were they when the crowd was shouting "Crucify Him!" Many people will come to church for various reasons (good music, good childcare, social opportunities, exciting youth group, etc.) but not many will come because they are desperate to hear the life saving word of God. Where is the hunger today?
