Triumph Over Troubles

The trouble, David as the psalmist writes in the midst of, is a part of the of three-fold judgment he came under as a consequence of his sin with Bathsheba. At that time when he had 'despised the word of the Lord,' God had declared that evil would arise against him from within his own household. Such is being experienced as his son Absalom conspires against him.

David began writing with a statement of the cause of his trouble. He thens turns his attention from the ones who oppose him to the One who defends him. David then wrote of the restful confidence he had that the Lord would work the situation out for what was good and best.

Application for us today who read this Psalm include:

1. Sometimes the problems in our lives can be many and overwhelming.
2. It may seem to some the Lord has abandoned us in those times.
3. In overwhelming troubles we must remember it is the Lord who protects us and brings deliverance.
4. We must earnestly seek our help from the Lord who will answer our prayer.
5. God supplies the means to endure even the troubles that are a consequence of our sin.
6. When we trust the Lord, fears and uncertainties are replaced by peace and confidence.
