Sermon on the Mount #19 Loving Your Neighbor Includes Your Enemy

What are you to do with those who makes themselves your enemy— who intentionally offend you, curse you, hate you, and persecute you? They go out of their way to treat you as their personal enemy.
What does Jesus say in Matthew 5:44? But what does David say in Psalm 139:22? Are Jesus and David speaking against one another? Some would wrongly say that David is sinning in what he is saying and Jesus is correcting the sinful speech of David (this pits David against Jesus and Jesus against David). Others would wrongly say that the Old Testament was a period of harshness and vengeance, but the New Testament is a period of love and mercy (this pits the Old Testament against the New Testament and the New Testament against the Old Testament as if God's Moral Law has changed). However, sound biblical interpreters rightly affirm that there is no disagreement between David and Jesus or between the Old Testament and the New Testament when it comes to how we are personally to treat those who make themselves our enemies.
