This is perhaps the greatest danger our souls face -- death by a thousand cuts. Some of the attacks upon our soul we are aware of. Sometimes there is a sudden surprise attack. Sometimes evil things just pop into our minds. Our own sin nature has a way of just popping up in odd, and unexpected times. Sometimes the attacks are just persistent, like a weight has been set upon us. Sometimes there are surprise attacks. Sometimes there are just the pressing attacks against your known weakness. But then, underneath these attacks, there is yet a more dangerous attack. It is the attack of a thousand little cuts. The little cuts will often seem unrelated to each other, and any one little cut seems easy enough to overcome. The problem is that these cuts add up over time and before you know it, the very foundation you thought you were standing on crumbles. All these little cuts add up unnoticed, until graciousness and faith are compromised by bitterness. Death by a thousand paper cuts.
