The Basis of Maturity

Paul told the Corinthians that uninterpreted tongues were a sign of only one thing: God's covenantal curse or judgment. He also told them that they should have understood this because of what had already been revealed about tongues in the Old Testament. The reason the Corinthians were behaving like infants was because they were thinking like infants and the reason they were thinking like infants was because they did not look to the Scriptures to shape their thinking about tongues. Instead, they chose to formulate their understanding upon the basis of their own experiences, traditions and preferences. We learn from this that the basis for maturity is conforming all our thinking and acting, by the grace of God, to that which has been revealed in His word.
