The Coming One

This portion of Luke's Gospel explores the question of Jesus' identity in relation to that of John the Baptist.

The question is raised and communicated - is Jesus of Nazareth the coming one?

The answer is demonstrated and delivered through Christ's healing and teaching, carried back to John by his disciples.

Then the prophet is identified and praised by Christ himself.

The responses to John's ministry are described and distinguished - those who vindicate God and those who reject his will.

Finally, the rebuke is delivered and concluded: many want God on their own terms, and rationalise their rejection of truth by any messenger.
