Face to Face

When God created the world, He instituted a Sabbath rest for all image bearers. Many will suggest that nature of this Sabbath rest is simply resting, that is, napping but that is not the idea behind this word. The term for Sabbath means, “to cease,” and so the Sabbath speaks of a cessation from our regular activities that we might give ourselves to the Lord and His work. Speaking of the Sabbath God tells us what is involved in giving ourselves to the Lord and His work:

Exodus 31:17b, “in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, but on the seventh day He ceased from labor, and was refreshed”
