2Sam005 David's Conquest of Zion

For hundreds of years, Israel had not acted upon a divine mandate which was to conquer the Jebusites, one of the notoriously wicked seven nations who God called upon Israel to exterminate from the land (Deuteronomy 7:1-2). With a few hundred thousand soldiers surrounding him in the aftermath of his coronation as king over all Israel (1Chronicles 12:23ff), David decided to take a trip north to Jerusalem and drive the Jebusites out of Zion's stronghold. While the Jebusites boasted of their ability to maintain their stronghold, David strategized and used superior tactics to dislodge the Jebusite rebels. The end result is that the Lord was with David and he took Zion, making it the City of David, the capital city of Israel. The conquest of Zion marks a large leap forward in redemptive history as subsequent canonical references unfold the spiritual significance of Zion in God's redemptive plan.
