When the Lord appeared to Gideon, Gideon was fearful because he knew he deserved judgment and death. But the Lord, at that moment, reassured Gideon with a word of shalom--peace and sufficiency to meet Gideon's need. But before that reassurance of peace was given, a peace offering had to be made.
