Guilt, Grace, and Gratitude
Series Adam Osworth
Those who are about to stone this woman taken in the act of adultery, the men of the city, are showing the viciousness of the law. The law doesn't care about you or I. These men express no concern for this woman. But they are saying to Jesus - What do you say? What should be done with her? In this scene of God's drama of redemption, Jesus doesn't do away with the law. He doesn't excuse this woman's guilt. He did not countenance the pretended zeal of these men either. But what plays out is a wonderful expression of the gospel. In this scene we must see the full-orbed picture here. We must see 1st - The repulsiveness of this sin. 2nd - The wonders of grace. A guilty sinner is cast into the midst of grace. And 3rd - A New Life lived out in gratitude.
