Gospel Presented in the OT Part 12 - Jesus Christ the Rock that was Struck
Series Gospel in OT
God has wonderfully revealed the truth of the Gospel in many places and in numerous ways in the Old Testament. When God led His people to a place in the desert where there was no water, they rebelled against Him and did not trust Him to provide for them. God called Moses to strike the rock to bring forth water. This striking is a picture of Christ, Who was struck on the cross so that we might have the living water of eternal life. While Moses struck the rock, it was God Who split the rock and caused the water to run out as a river. So man put Christ on the cross, but it was God the Father Who struck Him for our sins so that we could be saved through faith in Him. In the next no water situation, Moses was not told to strike the rock but to speak to the rock. Christ was struck once for all and so Moses did violence to the lesson by striking the rock again. Now that Christ has been struck on our behalf we are so speak to the rock of our salvation.
