Depression and the Believer Part 29 – The Stench and Corruption of the Old Sin Nature

Depression is a matter of what we think in our minds. God's Word tells us to watch over our hearts with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life. This tells us that how we think establishes our life in one way or another. A renewed mind is a mind that is centered in the truth of God's Word. It is this truth in the innermost being that God desires and that gives us true joy as we are encouraged by what is true and protected from what is false. The great lie of the world, the flesh, and the Devil is that by seeking my own will I will be happy. Living according to the lust of the flesh is a sure way to corruption and depression. Corruption in the physical sense is the state of putrefaction. Thus if we are not the sweet smelling savor that we should be as we walk in obedience to our Lord, we will be an offensive stench to ourselves and all around us. This would be walking as the gentiles walk in the futility of their minds.
