Depression and the Believer Part 25 – Proper Thinking in Difficult Times
Series Depression
Depression is a matter of what we think in our minds. God's Word tells us to watch over our hearts with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life. This tells us that how we think establishes our life in one way or another. A renewed mind is a mind that is centered in the truth of God's Word. It is this truth in the innermost being that God desires and that gives us true joy as we are encouraged by what is true and protected from what is false. This week we begin to look at what the renewed mind is to think when hard things fall upon us. Our starting point is this: apart from God's grace in Christ, I would justly be the recipient of His wrath forever. Not only will I never taste any of that wrath but I have been given every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. In light of these wonderful truths, how could I ever be shaken by my lot in this present life? Suffering, tears and hardship will only last for a short time and then I will be with Him and His, forever and ever. The glorious side of these hard things is that they are used by my Father to conform me to the Lord Jesus Christ. Here we look in some depth at the need for radical treatment from the hand of God to “mold me and make me after Thy will”.
