1 Introduction to Romans
Series Romans
The book to the Romans is the highest exposition of complete Christian doctrine that has ever been produced. It is the Crown in the New Testament fully describing what Christ has done for us, its difficulties for us and its process and rewards. All believers have the power to overcome sin and the assurance of final deliverance from this evil world. In this lifetime, will experience constant tension because of the sin nature. Here, God clearly affirms the victory because of Christ Jesus. The importance of the Holy Spirit is demonstrated by God mentioning Him nineteen times in this chapter. The Spirit's presence and power answers much of the despair over "The law of sin" which Paul explains as triumphing to human beings in chapter seven but is defeated in chapter eight by the power of the Holy Spirit.
It was written from Corinth, in the spring of A.D. 58. From the book of Acts, we see that after staying for more than two years at Ephesus, Paul led by the Holy Spirit, passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem. He commented saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome" (Acts 19:21). Further, the time of year is also revealed in Acts. The letter was sent, on the eve of his departure for Jerusalem, after the winter season had then begun. So, the time must have been early spring.
