The Gospel in Two Verses

The benediction offered in the final verses of the letter to the Hebrews is an excellent summary of the gospel. Here we learn that for those in Christ, God is the God of peace, the One who raised from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep. We learn also that the new covenant inaugurated in Christ's own blood is an eternal covenant, the fulfillment of all previous covenants, and the eternal, and thus final covenant. And God himself equips believers to do his will, that which is pleasing in his sight, just as Jesus did the Father's will, out love, not fear.
