Surprises from the Cross

In the description of Christ's crucifixion in Luke 23:26-56, we see some surprises from the Cross. We see the surprising cruelty--physical, emotional and spiritual cruelty; the surprising death--time of death, type of burial, and the witnesses; and the surprising mercy--words of prophecy, words of forgiveness, and acts of salvation.
