Hebrews 1:6; 2:5 - Are You in Christ's House?

A soteriological “world”

Not “world” at all, but “house”

The key concept here is
Subordination of the “house” to the Son
The danger of insubordination (this harmonizes with the over arching theme of perseverance, and is contextually reenforced by vs. 2:1 and 2:6)

Christ’s “house” is defined in 2:10-17

Ask yourself, is the writer of Hebrews discussing the impending cosmos? The answer is clearly “no.” Nowhere in the Hebrews text does he discuss the re-created universe; the closest is 12:22ff, and he discusses that, not as a future event, but as a present reality; that passage, in fact, reenforces our contention that “house” refers to the soteriological “house” of Christ

The writer of Hebrews is basically asking his audience a rhetorical question, “Are you an inhabitant of Christ’s house?” He answers the question by stating “Yes, you do indeed inhabit Christ’s house ‘if’ you do certain things, specifically, if you persevere.”
