The Doctrines of Grace

Tonight, we begin a series of confessional sermons based upon the "Canons of Dort."
These "canons" - or teachings - take on and confront the ultimate problem that is within
the heart of each, and every person ever born. These teachings are commonly known
as "The Five Points of Calvinism," but they are more properly referred to as "The
Doctrines of Grace." Tonight, we cover a broad overview of the Canons, and we will
see that:

1. The teachings of the canons can best be depicted by the seal of John Calvin: a
   burning heart held out to God in an open hand of submission.

2. The teachings of the canons can best be summarized by the Biblical teaching
   of self-denial and self-abnegation.

3. The teachings of the canons can best be understood to teach that we no
   longer serve our self, but we live to serve our sovereign God.
