Our Present God Psalm 17

Psalm 17.1-9

A Prayer of David reminds us there is much prayer in the Psalter

I. God's presence (17.1-2).

A. David's integrity (Compare Psalm 32.1-2,5).

B. Divine inspection. Reconciled believers do not have to fear God's inspection. (17.2).

II. God's proving (17.3-4)

A. David's integrity reaffirmed. (1 Samuel 17.39). David himself has been tried and can be sure of his own innocence.

B. David's purpose. This is no hasty self vindication.

C. David's help. David's help is the God of Israel. (Psalm 124.7-8). (Exodus 3.14)(17.4)(John 8.28-29)

III. God's protection

A. Steady steps (17.5-6).

B. Shown lovingkindness (17.7)(John 3.16).

C. The shadow of God's wings (17.8-9)(Psalm 61.1-2).

Conclusion

The final enemy is death.

(1 Corinthians 15.55-57).
