You Can’t Fix It

You Can't Fix It

But He Can…

Let's Look at The Four-Fold Nature of Sin and the Mercy in the Middle"

I. Sin Exposed and Grace Extended
• Our journey through Psalm 32, 51, and 50 gives us a full view of sin's reality—and God's mercy.
• David's story is our story: sin, shame, confrontation, repentance, and restoration.
• God doesn't redefine the mark. He invites us to hit it through grace and surrender.

II. Four-Fold Description of Sin (Psalm 32 & 51)

  1. Transgression – What We Did
    • "You crossed the line." That's why it's called a transgression.
    • The act of going beyond God's boundary, willingly and knowingly.
  2. Iniquity – Why We Did It
    • The internal motive. A crookedness in us that makes us feel entitled.
    • We sin because we believe we have the right—this is self-will at war with God's will.
  3. Deceit/Guile – How We Did It
    • Done secretly, deceptively, so as to not be found out.
    • We cloak sin in shadows, pretend righteousness outwardly while inwardly harboring rebellion.
  4. Sin – What We Didn't Do
    • "Missing the mark." Not hitting God's standard.
    • It's not just what you did—it's also what you failed to do.

Application: This pattern helps us counsel, confront, and comfort others with clarity. We can help people identify the what, why, how, and what was neglected—and then walk with them to the cross.

III. The Pattern of David's Fall and Return
• Psalm 51: A broken man crying for inner renewal—"Create in me a clean heart…"
• Psalm 32: A forgiven man reflecting on mercy—"Blessed is the one whose sin is covered…"
• David's sin was great, but so was his repentance. He didn't justify it—he confessed it.
• Key truth: One act of sin can carry all four
