Reprobation of Judas Iscariot

The horrific end of Judas, together with the chilling statement of the Lord Jesus concerning Judas (Matthew 26:24) requires the examination of the doctrine of Reprobation – God’s decree of condemnation. The Act of Reprobation is a Sovereign act of God, wherein He rejects and passes by specific individuals in the dispensing of electing love and grace, for reasons that lie solely in His good pleasure, not of works, but of God’s prerogative as the Potter. Reprobation is not an act of perverse delight in the ruin of sinners, nor is it a result of anything done by the reprobate, but is the painful but necessary concomitant of Election. Clearly, as with the crucifixion itself, the Lord determines to do what is painful to Himself, but necessary. We may say that at times, that “He sometimes takes no pleasure in His ‘good pleasure’”. Romans 9 provides the theological support.
