Barnabas and Saul

When Christ sent his messengers the Holy Spirit led the church to choose them. It was in the context of fasting and prayer. That gives us guidance regarding the choice of men for office in the church as well as for evangelism. The message was about Christ. They used the Jews history and Law to gain a hearing, and showed how Jesus fulfilled their historical aspirations and freed them from the burden of the Law. It resonated with many, but others were more concerned with their ethnic label than the reality of God's work (and labels still hinder his work today). The apostles were driven out of the city, but the Holy Spirit can never be driven out.
