Hard Religion from Hard Hearts

False teachers are not only teaching what is wrong, but they are also destroying the souls of those whom they teach. So with the unspeakable privilege we have, of access to God's Word, let us be serious about the danger of false teaching. Throughout our continent, there is a vast darkness that reigns in false teaching. They can be quoting Bible verses, but they are not saying what the Bible is saying. So much of this system is bound up in traditions of our ancestors. A Pharisee even takes offense at Jesus for not obeying tradition. He should have been astounded by the error of his traditions, not Jesus' norms. Religious tradition is about making God do what is pleasant for the person who observes them. Yet here God is speaking to the Pharisee who presumes to impress his norms on God. And they are not even concerned about the state of their hearts! To Jesus, the heart is all that matters! Religion earns the religious person the approval of others. They long for it, regardless of the state of their hearts. This is a constant temptation, even for true Christians. Two questions that will help you to see whether this is true of you: Do you hate to be confronted? Are you blind with your open on your lap?
