Titus 2:1-10 – Adorning the Doctrine of God

Do you remember what it was like being young and dumb? I still shake my head at some of the things I did in junior high and high school. At one point, a teacher confronted me about a picture I had drawn on one of my textbooks. I don't remember all that he said, but he could have asked me if it was appropriate. Another time, I was at a baseball game with some friends from church. When the team's song was being sung over the speakers, I blurted out an inappropriate word to make my friends laugh. I had forgotten that my friend's dad was seated just three seats away from me. Once again, the question could have been asked. Was that appropriate?

As we read Titus 2:1-10, we will be asked to consider the same question. Are the things we are doing and saying appropriate for a Christian to do or say? That is a convicting question. But there is room to go even further. Paul wanted Titus to address the needs of five groups of people: older men, older women, young women, young men, and slaves. And he was very specific about what God wanted each group to do. Let us take look at what the Bible says.
