16 The Gospel Replaced the Law
Series Hebrews
The apostle begins to describe the ritualistic system of the Levitical priesthood was insufficient to save people. Arguing for the insufficiency of the old Law he says,” if the old Law system was sufficient then why did God need to send a different priest”? In other words, one after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron. God sent a very special person who had similar characteristics to Melchezedek not Aaron, Moses’ brother the first high priest. It is important to have a firm understanding of the meaning of the Law and the fact that it has been fulfilled. In other words, it is complete, over, and replaced with the Gospel. Because many Christians inappropriately define the Law, make inaccurate definitions and application of the Law to Christianity, and require adherence to Old Testament passages of the Law in the Church Age it needs to be understood.
