Leprosy Sermon for Christmas? Leprosy is death and sin. Christmas is about the cure!
Series Genesis 1-19 Lecture Series
Now, normally this would be a continuation of our Genesis 1-19 series, but... our illustrious pastor knows what time it is. It's Christmas time, so... It's time for... Leprosy! Okay, it really isn't leprosy as we know it today. That's Hansen's Disease, and I'll let pastor explain the differences. So, why is that important? When you read Scripture you need to apply God's definition of leprosy. And you cannot have a discussion about God becoming man and descending to the earth without talking about leprosy, because leprosy symbolizes what God came to solve. It's the answer found in Genesis 15. Abram asked God, How can I know that I'm saved? And that has everything to do with... Christmas. Wait ‘till you find out what Jesus did with leprosy in Israel?
But we just have to take a little foray into humanistic philosophy vs. literal Biblical interpretation. This rabbit trail is partially due to a young man in our local congregation who was assigned this in school: Contrast the truth of Scientific Humanism, with the myth of Creation. First you have God's definition of leprosy. Leprosy is death. The contrast with Biblical Creationism and evolutional materialism is “Death”. And when you're in this discussion with someone, if you don't go immediately into a discourse about death, you're doomed. I'll let pastor fill you in on where you go from there.
